ISM 2015 VERSION 1Indie Soul Mixer Celebrates 10th Year Anniversary at Drom NYC…

The 10th Annual Indie Soul Mixer-NYC presented by Executive Producers, Mike Ashley & Dexter Myers is set for Sunday, September 27, 2015. We are extremely honored to have produced this event for the past decade in NYC. We launched this event to offer support and camaraderie as the music business drastically changed around us. We invite our friends old and new to come out and celebrate a true staple in the Indie Soul Community. We are moving the event back to DROM, one of the premier music venues in NYC and we are trying it on a Sunday for this very special silver anniversary gala.
Our Theme: The Indie Soul Family Reunion 2015
We invite every artist and guest that has ever attended the Indie Soul Mixer to come back and fellowship with us for this very important milestone. Whether you perform or just come out and experience the latest and greatest music from your peers, we want you in the building.
Performance Details
If you would like to register for a performance slot at the event, please send us an email: dextermyers@gmail.com and we will send the performance information. We will always try to accommodate everyone that would like to perform

A note from the co-promoter: Mike Ashley.

For 10 years I have been co- promoter of the Indie Soul Mixer Event in New York.
The event is principally for Independent Soul Artists, enabling them to perform and network amongst and with their peers. It is attended by emerging and established Independent artists. The list is endless and many have graced our stage.
It offers opportunities for UK artists to grace the stage in New York to perform in front of an audience of other Independent artists, and others who are committed to the development of Indie Soul (or related) talent – Promoters, Radio DJ’s, management etc.
The event is for artists (although it is open to the public) for networking and enhancing their connections and business models. We will give priority to any artists from the UK so please take the opportunity to appear on stage at one of New Yorks hottest spots right now, and one that has graced many high level Indie Soul Artists over recent years.
Several US artists have taken the opportunity to include trips to the UK in their promotional budgets and have, through ISM connections, worked and collaborated with UK artists. There are many initiatives and collaborations between US and UK artists that have arisen as a result of attending ISM, and I will detail some of these over the coming months. Only a few have made the reverse trip – UK to US, however, it is an opportunity that should be considered.
There will be ‘partner’ events over the weekend to enhance the New York experience and make it more worthwhile and productive.
The event itself is a joint venture between myself and Independent artist Dexter Myers so it truly is an international cross border initiative. We have great assistance with our friends at Rhythm and Soul Radio and our other US ‘partners’. Again these will be referenced as we approach the event.
It also offers the opportunity for anyone connected with the promotion of Indie Soul in the UK to meet and exchange with like minded people in the US.

Soul Freedom Radio Portfolio

A brief summary of my output predominantly supported New Independent Soul Music but also drawing from Soul Music history and related genres of Black Music.

Currently 356 hours per year, 30 hours a month, 7 hours a week – all different.  None of this is syndicated – it is all specific to the outlets described below.

There will also be an addition to the portfolio shortly for an Atlanta based station.

I hope that you are able to enjoy some of the product and thanks for your support and for listening.  Thanks also to the artists as without them this would be impossible.

Soul Freedom Live – every Weds from 7pm til 9pm UK with Rozaya Hopkins and Beki Wills

This show is live from the Passion studios in Bristol led by Rozaya and Beki with me chipping in from time to time, though I supply a lot, but not all of the music – especially the new independent. The final selections are usually made by the girls. There is a leaning towards independent artists and also to local artists especially those that have graced the Soul Freedom Live stage, and often they guest in the studio.  From time to time we do depart and play tunes from our expansive collections from the 60’s onwards

Soul Freedom – 3rd and 4th Sundays of month 9pm EST 4pm UK

Probably the most expansive show we do

Longstanding twice monthly show recorded by me at home so it doesn’t go out live. Predominantly new independent soul, and really brand new at the point of recording the show, though sometimes it may go out 2 or 3 weeks later so when aired they often are not ‘crisp biscuit’ but pretty new. Sometimes I depart from this and play other stuff and as said above this show is a little more expansive and eclectic, including not necessarily the straight ahead music that goes down in the UK best. More where my heads at stuff than the others perhaps.

Previously I used to paste this show together record the wordy bits and cut this in. Could put a show together is way less than real time… However now I record the show in real time, the talking bits added as we go, no second takes or anything. Broadly just sit by my laptop and piece together the show as we go, sometimes I will do from vinyl or cd as the show dictates. Doing it ‘live’ in this way gives it a much better ‘feel’ I think and better flow and I am much happier with the result.

Soul Freedom – Soul Freedom every Monday from 7 til 10pm UK

From Commercial Soul through to new Independent Soul.  This is a new Community Radio Station based in Cheddar Somerset and airs locolly on 104.4FM

This show is live from the Cheddar Studios every Monday – features a lot of recent years independent soul accompanied by Soul Classics, am not afraid to play old Soul so long as its good. What surprises me often, as the show is done pretty much on the fly on the spot, is how well the new and the old mix together dispelling any argument that todays music is inferior – it stands up
