Soul Freedom Live is an offshoot of ventures run by Mike Ashley (Life & Soul Promotions, Indie Soul Mixer, Soul Freedom(DJ/RADIO), singer song-writer, Rozaya Hopkins and visual artist Beki Wills. SFL was launched as a vehicle to promote new and upcoming Independent Soul Artists but with some added variations. Beki Wills was placed in charge of Art and Design, internet and promotion and Rozaya Hopkins, a singer/songwriter, was to use her band 'The Thorns' as the ‘house’ band'. She was also to become our main resident performer, host and artist liaison for the local artists. Together we are SFL and between us we carry out all the other functions to make it work! which are numerous.

ISM 2015 VERSION 1Indie Soul Mixer Celebrates 10th Year Anniversary at Drom NYC…

The 10th Annual Indie Soul Mixer-NYC presented by Executive Producers, Mike Ashley & Dexter Myers is set for Sunday, September 27, 2015. We are extremely honored to have produced this event for the past decade in NYC. We launched this event to offer support and camaraderie as the music business drastically changed around us. We invite our friends old and new to come out and celebrate a true staple in the Indie Soul Community. We are moving the event back to DROM, one of the premier music venues in NYC and we are trying it on a Sunday for this very special silver anniversary gala.
Our Theme: The Indie Soul Family Reunion 2015
We invite every artist and guest that has ever attended the Indie Soul Mixer to come back and fellowship with us for this very important milestone. Whether you perform or just come out and experience the latest and greatest music from your peers, we want you in the building.
Performance Details
If you would like to register for a performance slot at the event, please send us an email: and we will send the performance information. We will always try to accommodate everyone that would like to perform

A note from the co-promoter: Mike Ashley.

For 10 years I have been co- promoter of the Indie Soul Mixer Event in New York.
The event is principally for Independent Soul Artists, enabling them to perform and network amongst and with their peers. It is attended by emerging and established Independent artists. The list is endless and many have graced our stage.
It offers opportunities for UK artists to grace the stage in New York to perform in front of an audience of other Independent artists, and others who are committed to the development of Indie Soul (or related) talent – Promoters, Radio DJ’s, management etc.
The event is for artists (although it is open to the public) for networking and enhancing their connections and business models. We will give priority to any artists from the UK so please take the opportunity to appear on stage at one of New Yorks hottest spots right now, and one that has graced many high level Indie Soul Artists over recent years.
Several US artists have taken the opportunity to include trips to the UK in their promotional budgets and have, through ISM connections, worked and collaborated with UK artists. There are many initiatives and collaborations between US and UK artists that have arisen as a result of attending ISM, and I will detail some of these over the coming months. Only a few have made the reverse trip – UK to US, however, it is an opportunity that should be considered.
There will be ‘partner’ events over the weekend to enhance the New York experience and make it more worthwhile and productive.
The event itself is a joint venture between myself and Independent artist Dexter Myers so it truly is an international cross border initiative. We have great assistance with our friends at Rhythm and Soul Radio and our other US ‘partners’. Again these will be referenced as we approach the event.
It also offers the opportunity for anyone connected with the promotion of Indie Soul in the UK to meet and exchange with like minded people in the US.

Here check this out and see what I mean!

The stage is redder than Richie's congars.

Live..Rozaya shows what a vesatile performer she is with a number of self-penned songs, such as “days are passing” and “angel”, classics such as Street Life, a rendition of  Erykah Badu’s   Tyrone, and her mashup of Rudimental’s Waiting all Night.

The event was courtesy of Jelli records, with local Bristol band Muff Said and Jelli Records‘ Bashema with special thanks to Steve Paarkhouse.
